Re: New to this site

According to this, helical arcs are supported, as I suspected.

Re: New to this site

Sorry, I missed this post. According to this list of supported g-codes, JointCAm produced code should run fine. https://docs.carbide3d.com/software-faq/list-of-supported-gcodes/ JointCAM uses very basic g-codes, G0, G1, G2, and G3. It does use helical G2/G3 moves when plunging into mortises, but I w...

New Version Available

I just uploaded a new JointCAM update, Version 1.0.0.8.
For those that create separate roughing and dovetail files, this version greatly simplifies the process, allowing you to select which toolpaths to export .

Re: Zeroing

The file "pin.nc" is actually the same file as the "tail.nc" file. So I don't have your actual "pin" board file. However, just looking at the picture, it looks like you are setting your X zero on the outside of the vertical board. It needs to be on the Inside. I think t...

Re: error

1) Make sure you have the latest version of JointCAM.

2) if you are using a "," comma for the decimal separator, make sure every single input box in JointCAM uses commas, and not decimal points "."

Re: Zeroing

If you are cutting both pin and tail boards together, the board on the table needs to be offset from the vertical board, or they won't line up. The offset amount is displayed on the screen in JointCAM. Trying to cut half blind dovetails, looks like the tail aren't rounding enough to fit the pins. Ca...

Re: Zeroing

The code from JointCAM?

Email me the code, and save the project file (.jnt file) and send me that as well.

Re: Unusual bug in 'custom thru dovetail'

I just uploaded a new version that fixes this issue. It was actually simpler than I thought. I do some math to calculate the number of passes. It was combing back as 0.5, which was changed to 0 when converting to an integer number. I've ran into this before, and just need to check that if the number...

Re: Unusual bug in 'custom thru dovetail'

I don't have the code with me, but I think I know what the issue is here. During development, I usually start with one joint (left or right, and usually Y axis). Then I copy the code and modify it for the mirrored side, and X axis. It looks like where the path deviates, I changed the X coordinate in...

New Version Available - Mortise Support

The long awaited new version of JointCAM with mortises is finally here.

I just uploaded a test version. I still have a few more features to add, but you can now make mortises and tenons with JointCAM.

Re: New to this site

I need to create joints on the bottom only Can you clarify what you mean? Do you want the bottom attached to the sides with box joints? JointCAM is not designed to do that. Typically, only the sides receive box joints, and the bottom is typically held in a dado. Assuming the sides are just 4" ...

Re: New to this site

There are a few hundred JointCAM users, but only a small percentage have registered for the forum. Most of the posts here occurred when JointCAM was first released. I think that people tend to email me directly when they have questions. I'll probably be closing this forum sometime next year and star...

Re: Box joints

I am new here and am looking to buy this program. I own a Shapeoko XXL with a Dewalt router on it It will cut past the front rail far enough to cut 1.25 thick wood. Note that you need enough room to mount a vertical jig, plus the stock thickness, plus at least 1-1.5x the bit diameter. Feel free to ...

Re: Box joints

Rounded and double round box joints are cut similar to half blind dovetails, with one board flat, and one mounted vertically. They are cut separately.

Here's a double round box joint on my machine. (Note that this is just a jig for making test cuts)

Re: Box joints

Unfortunately, I haven't made time to update the manual, or make any videos. I'll post some pictures, and try to provide a little information. Standard box joints are cut with both boards mounted vertically. The procedure is very similar to cutting through dovetails. Just mount the board against the...

New Version 0.9.0.45

I just uploaded a new version with a minor bug fix. This version also includes a new feature I added last week. A few users with Laguna machines had contacted me, as their machine only ran in metric mode, but they preferred to work in inches. JointCAM will now allow you to work in one unit, and expo...
