New Version Available - Mortise Support

The long awaited new version of JointCAM with mortises is finally here.

I just uploaded a test version. I still have a few more features to add, but you can now make mortises and tenons with JointCAM.

Re: New to this site

I need to create joints on the bottom only Can you clarify what you mean? Do you want the bottom attached to the sides with box joints? JointCAM is not designed to do that. Typically, only the sides receive box joints, and the bottom is typically held in a dado. Assuming the sides are just 4" wide,...

Re: New to this site

There are a few hundred JointCAM users, but only a small percentage have registered for the forum. Most of the posts here occurred when JointCAM was first released. I think that people tend to email me directly when they have questions. I'll probably be closing this forum sometime next year and star...

Re: Box joints

I am new here and am looking to buy this program. I own a Shapeoko XXL with a Dewalt router on it It will cut past the front rail far enough to cut 1.25 thick wood. Note that you need enough room to mount a vertical jig, plus the stock thickness, plus at least 1-1.5x the bit diameter. Feel free to ...

Re: Box joints

Rounded and double round box joints are cut similar to half blind dovetails, with one board flat, and one mounted vertically. They are cut separately.

Here's a double round box joint on my machine. (Note that this is just a jig for making test cuts)

Re: Box joints

Unfortunately, I haven't made time to update the manual, or make any videos. I'll post some pictures, and try to provide a little information. Standard box joints are cut with both boards mounted vertically. The procedure is very similar to cutting through dovetails. Just mount the board against the...

New Version 0.9.0.45

I just uploaded a new version with a minor bug fix. This version also includes a new feature I added last week. A few users with Laguna machines had contacted me, as their machine only ran in metric mode, but they preferred to work in inches. JointCAM will now allow you to work in one unit, and expo...

New Version 0.9.0.42 - Tenons!!

I just uploaded a new version of JointCAM, with support for cutting tenons.
It will NOT do mortises yet, but I wanted to get something out for some testing.
I'm hoping to get a tutorial video uploaded later this week that explains some of the settings. Hopefully it's somewhat self explanatory.

Re: Tenon test cuts

I thought it would be finished 2 years ago, so no, I really have no idea. It should be done by the end of the year, but I'm hoping for much sooner. I gave up golfing for the year to devote all of my time to getting this done. :o I'm hoping to have the tenon portion done very soon, and may release a ...

New Version 0.9.0.41 - Custom Half Blind Bug Fix

There was a bug in half blind custom dovetails. The toolpath was wrong on the bottom edge of left hand tail boards. It only occurred in certain situations, depending on the size of the bottom pin.

Re: Mortise and Tenon

I've been working on it regularly for the last few months, but it's still going to be a little while. The interface is complete, after completely redoing it 3-4 times, and I'm working out the toolpaths now.
Can't give you an ETA, though.

Re: Welcome

From the main Board Index, if you click on General, is there a "Subscribe" option at the bottom of the page? If so, subscribe to that and the Development section. Then, in the User Control panel, under Board Preferences, check the email box next to the appropriate options. You can also subscribe to ...

Re: Bug in Box Joint Double round

Yes, the Y values should be -2.5 and -7.5. What version of JointCAM are you using? I'm not seeing those results here. If your not using the latest version, try that first. If a new version doesn't work, can you Save the project, and send me the file? Also, go to the Configuration Tab, click Settings...

Do you find the holes in the MDF deforming from clamping pressure?
